Ford’s 4-Door Mustang Prototype Draws Comparisons to Porsche Panamera

Reports of a four-door Ford Mustang have been circulating, and a recent meeting between Ford executives and dealers in Las Vegas suggests the model could become a reality in a few years. Dealers who saw a prototype at the event noted that the car was inspired by the Porsche Panamera in several ways.
The Mustang has been a two-door sports coupe since its 1964 debut, but according to a report by Ford Authority, that could change. At the Las Vegas meeting, Ford showed dealers an early prototype on stage, giving them a preview of what might arrive at dealerships in the coming years.
Some attendees said the four-door Mustang’s size was very similar to the Panamera, and its design reportedly matched the Porsche in certain aspects.
Ford did not reveal the vehicle’s name, but based on an earlier dealer meeting, it has reportedly been referred to as the Mach 4. In February 2025, Ford filed a trademark for that term, though it has not been confirmed as the production name. Ford told dealers the new Mustang will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds, start at under $40,000, and offer more rear-seat space than the Panamera.
However, production is not expected until at least 2028.
Separately, dealers were also shown mock-ups of a small SUV with a starting price of $25,000. According to Road & Track, the compact SUV will be available in gas and hybrid forms and is slated to go on sale in 2029. Photos of the prototype showed a wide, boxy design, with one person comparing it to the first-generation Ford Escape.
However, the design has not been approved for production, and no name has been assigned, so its arrival is not confirmed. Ford didn’t disclose dimensions, but it may be similar in size to the EcoSport or Escape.
