Ford Shows Dealers a Four-Door Mustang Prototype, Touts Sub-$40K Price and Quick 0-60

Ford is reportedly floating the idea of a four-door Mustang, with dealers getting a first look at an early prototype during a Las Vegas meeting. The vehicle is said to target the 2029 model year, according to Automotive News. Attendees, who spoke anonymously, compared its size and design to a Porsche Panamera.

An internal codename or trademark hints the name could be Mach 4, though nothing is confirmed.

The pitch included some concrete figures: a starting price under $40,000, a 0-60 mph time of under four seconds, and more rear seat room than the Panamera. 7 seconds with an automatic, and the Panamera offers about 32 inches of rear legroom. No details were given on the powertrain, gas, electric, hybrid, or something else remains unknown.

This isn't the first time a four-door Mustang has been discussed. The idea dates back to 2024, and a sketch of a four-door model appeared in official release materials when the seventh-generation Mustang debuted in September 2022. It's unclear if that sketch matches what dealers saw in Vegas.

Ford has not sold a sedan since killing the Fusion in 2020, and the Mustang is currently its only non-SUV or truck in North America. In June. Ford executive Andrew Frick said the company was "absolutely" happy with dropping sedans, but he didn't rule out bringing them back, possibly with Mustang branding.
