Ford Recalls Over 79,000 SUVs Due to Driver’s Seat Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 79,000 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators after discovering a defect in the driver’s seat that could pose a safety risk. The recall, announced this week, covers certain model-year vehicles where the seat structure may not properly restrain the driver during a crash.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem stems from a missing or improperly installed seat-back recliner mechanism. In the event of a collision, the driver’s seat could unexpectedly recline, increasing the chance of injury.

Ford says it is aware of a small number of warranty claims and customer complaints related to the issue but no reports of accidents or injuries.

Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters starting next month. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver’s seat assembly at no cost. Ford recommends that drivers contact their local dealership to schedule service as soon as they receive the recall notice.

The company also advises anyone experiencing unusual movement or looseness in the driver’s seat to bring the vehicle in immediately.

, including 2022-2023 Ford Explorer and 2022-2023 Lincoln Aviator models. Owners with questions can visit Ford’s recall website or call customer service. This marks the second seat-related recall for the Explorer this year, underscoring the importance of proper seat manufacturing in SUVs.
