Ford Recalls Over 565,000 Broncos and Bronco Raptors Due to Fire Risk from Wiring Issue

Ford has announced a recall of more than half a million Bronco and Bronco Raptor SUVs after discovering a wiring problem that could lead to engine fires. The recall covers 565,691 vehicles from the 2021 through 2026 model years, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The issue stems from the engine compartment wiring harness, which may not have enough abrasion protection. Over time, movement between the harness and nearby parts can wear through the insulation, exposing wires. If those exposed wires touch, they can short-circuit and create sparks, potentially igniting a fire.
Drivers might first notice smoke coming from the cabin air vents or see a warning message on the instrument cluster. Ford told regulators it is aware of 15 incidents where a fire may have been caused by this wiring problem. The company stressed that the fix is straightforward and doesn't require a new part, just additional protection.
Dealers will install a special convolute sheathing with abrasion tape around the wiring harness to prevent chafing and eliminate the short-circuit risk.
Ford has already started notifying dealers about the recall, and owner notifications are scheduled to go out between August 24 and August 28. If you own a Bronco or Bronco Raptor from the affected model years, you can check whether your vehicle is included by visiting the NHTSA website.
Once confirmed, schedule an appointment with your local Ford dealer, including Boca Auto Care, to get the repair done at no cost. It's a simple fix that could save you a lot of trouble down the road.
