Ford Recalls Over 548,000 Expedition SUVs Over Peeling Center Console Hazard

Ford Recalls Over 548,000 Expedition SUVs Over Peeling Center Console Hazard

Ford has announced a recall affecting 548,463 Expedition SUVs from model years 2018 through 2024. The issue stems from chrome trim on the center console that can peel or separate, leaving sharp edges that may pose a risk to occupants.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the chrome plating on some consoles was manufactured to specifications that didn’t meet Ford’s standards. 8 percent are expected to show signs of bubbling or peeling.

As of early June, Ford has received 34 customer complaints, 150 field reports, and 4,634 warranty claims globally that may be linked to the defect. The automaker is also aware of one accident and 65 injuries potentially tied to the problem.

The remedy is straightforward: owners will be asked to bring their SUVs to a Ford dealership, where technicians will inspect the console and replace any units showing signs of peeling or bubbling with parts that meet Ford’s updated specifications.

Dealerships have already been notified, and interim owner notification letters are scheduled to go out on June 29. However, the actual repair letters won’t be mailed until January 29, 2027, meaning some owners may wait months before receiving final instructions.

This recall is specific to Ford Expedition models and does not affect other brands. If you own one of these vehicles, keep an eye on your mail for the initial notice and watch for updates from your local dealer.
