Ford Recalls Nearly 741,000 Vehicles Over Transmission Issue

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall affecting roughly 741,000 vehicles across multiple models due to a transmission defect that could cause unintended movement. The recall, disclosed in filings with federal safety regulators, covers certain 2021 through 2023 model year vehicles equipped with specific automatic transmissions.
The problem stems from a software glitch that may prevent the transmission from shifting into park even when the driver selects that gear. In some cases, the vehicle could roll away after the driver exits, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Ford says it is aware of at least four reports of injuries linked to the issue but no fatalities.
Affected models include the Ford Bronco, Edge, Explorer, Escape, Maverick, and Transit, as well as the Lincoln Nautilus and Aviator. Dealers will update the transmission control software free of charge. Owners can expect notification letters starting in late March, and those with questions can contact Ford’s customer service or visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website for more details.
