Ford Recalls Mustang Mach-E Models Over Battery and Software Glitches

Ford has announced a recall affecting thousands of its Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers in the United States. The automaker identified two separate issues that could impact vehicle safety and performance, prompting the action. Owners of certain 2021 through 2024 models should expect to hear from Ford soon, as the company moves to address the problems free of charge.

The first problem involves a potential malfunction in the high-voltage battery contactors, which could fail to open properly during charging or driving. This might lead to a sudden loss of power or, in rare cases, a fire risk. Ford says it will update the vehicle’s software to better monitor battery temperature and contactor resistance, reducing the chance of overheating.

The second issue is a software bug in the driver-assistance system that could cause unexpected braking or acceleration, particularly at low speeds. A separate over-the-air update will fix that.

Owners can check their vehicle’s recall status through Ford’s website or mobile app. Dealers will handle the repairs at no cost, and loaner vehicles may be available. , though Ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to these defects. The company advises drivers to stay alert and park their vehicles away from structures if they notice warning lights or unusual behavior.
