Ford Recalls 36,000 Broncos Over Fender Flares That Could Fly Off

Ford has issued a recall for nearly 36,000 Bronco SUVs from the 2022 through 2026 model years after discovering that the fender flares may come loose while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the plastic trim pieces around the wheel wells can detach, creating a potential hazard for other drivers.

The problem stems from the adhesive bond between the fender flare and the body panel. Over time, heat and vibration can weaken that bond, especially in off-road conditions where the Broncos are likely to be pushed. If a flare separates at highway speeds, it could become a projectile, leading to a crash or property damage.

Ford has received a handful of reports of flares falling off, though no injuries have been linked to the issue so far.

Owners will be notified by mail starting in May, and dealers will inspect the flares for proper adhesion. If needed, they will reattach them using a stronger adhesive or replace the parts entirely at no cost. For now, Bronco drivers can check their vehicle’s status through Ford’s recall lookup tool.

If you notice a loose flare, it’s best to bring it in before it becomes a problem on the road.
