Ford Re-Issues Recall for 288,000 Explorer SUVs Over Roof Rail Cover Concerns

Ford Re-Issues Recall for 288,000 Explorer SUVs Over Roof Rail Cover Concerns

Ford is once again recalling nearly 288,000 Explorer SUVs, this time to address a persistent problem with roof rail covers that could detach while driving. The recall, which covers certain model years from 2020 through 2023, marks the second time the automaker has attempted to fix this specific issue.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the plastic covers on the roof rails may lose their adhesion and separate from the vehicle, posing a hazard to other drivers.

The problem first surfaced in early 2023, when Ford issued a recall for the same condition. The initial fix involved replacing the covers and applying a stronger adhesive. However, subsequent reports indicated that the repair was not holding up over time, with some covers still coming loose.

In response, Ford has now developed an updated repair procedure that includes a more robust bonding process and, in some cases, the installation of additional retention clips. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters starting in late April.

For Boca Auto Care customers, this is a good reminder to stay on top of recall notices. If you own a 2020-2023 Ford Explorer and haven't had the roof rail covers addressed, or if you received the earlier repair but are noticing issues, bring it in. We can check your VIN against the recall database and perform the updated fix at no cost to you.

Safety is our priority, and we want to ensure your Explorer's parts stay exactly where they belong.
