Ford Pulls Thousands of F-150s and SUVs Over Parking Brake Flaw

Ford Pulls Thousands of F-150s and SUVs Over Parking Brake Flaw

Ford is recalling a batch of its popular F-150 pickup trucks and several SUV models after discovering a problem that could prevent the vehicles from staying put when parked. The issue, which affects certain 2023 and 2024 models, involves a potential failure in the park lock mechanism.

If the parking pawl—a small metal pin that locks the transmission—doesn't engage properly, the vehicle could roll away even when the gear shifter is set to Park.

, including the F-150, the Expedition SUV, and the Lincoln Navigator. Ford says the problem stems from a manufacturing defect in a component of the transmission control module. Drivers may notice a warning light or a message on their dashboard, but in some cases, there are no obvious signs until the vehicle moves unexpectedly.

The company has received a handful of reports of unintended rollaways but no confirmed injuries.

Owners will be notified starting next month and are asked to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a free software update and, if needed, a replacement of the affected part. In the meantime, Ford recommends engaging the parking brake every time you park—a good habit for any driver.

For more details, visit Ford’s recall website or call their customer service line.

As of now, no other Ford models are included in this action, and the company is working to fix the issue as quickly as possible. If you own one of these vehicles, check your VIN on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s site to see if yours is affected.
