Ford Pulls 43,000 Mustang Mach-Es Over Rear Differential Problem

Ford Pulls 43,000 Mustang Mach-Es Over Rear Differential Problem

Ford has issued a recall for nearly 43,000 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles, citing a potential failure in the rear differential that could lead to a loss of power or unintended movement. The recall covers certain 2021 through 2023 model years and stems from a manufacturing issue where the rear drive unit’s half-shaft may not have been properly heat-treated.

According to documents filed with federal safety regulators, the defect can cause the half-shaft to break, which might result in the vehicle losing drive power or, in some cases, rolling away if the parking brake isn’t engaged. Ford says it has received 124 field reports and 15 warranty claims linked to the problem, though no crashes or injuries have been reported as of yet.

The company is not aware of any related accidents.

Owners will be notified starting April 7, and dealerships will inspect and replace the affected rear drive unit half-shafts free of charge. For Boca Auto Care customers driving a Mach-E, this recall underscores the importance of staying current with manufacturer notices. If you suspect your vehicle might be affected, check your VIN on Ford’s recall website or give us a call—we can help verify eligibility and coordinate any necessary repairs to keep you safely on the road.
