Ford Names Its New Budget Electric Pickup the Fathom, Priced from $29,945

Ford has finally revealed the name and starting price for its upcoming budget-friendly electric pickup, and it's called the Fathom. The base model will cost $29,945, which includes a $1,595 destination charge, making it the cheapest Ford you'll eventually be able to buy, even undercutting the Maverick by $45 once delivery fees are factored in.
The name comes from a nautical depth measurement, the same inspiration behind Mark Twain's pen name.
The Fathom undercuts the competing Slate by $3,545, though it's not a stripped-down base model. Ford hasn't shared full specs yet, but the automaker has confirmed that BlueCruise hardware and Apple Maps integration will be included. A promotional video hints at in-bed power outlets and what appears to be a midgate, a feature that a Ford PR representative also seemed to confirm on Reddit.
That same rep said the truck will use a NACS charging plug.
Ford hasn't announced when the Fathom will reach dealerships, but preorders are scheduled to open in early 2027. If the company can deliver a four-door electric pickup with a midgate for under $30,000 and usable daily range, it could seriously challenge the Slate's appeal, even among that truck's biggest fans.
