Ford Issues Recall for Mustang Mach-E Over Rear Differential Problem

Ford Issues Recall for Mustang Mach-E Over Rear Differential Problem

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall affecting certain 2021-2023 Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs due to a potential issue with the rear differential. The problem involves a faulty weld that could cause the differential housing to separate, leading to a loss of drive power or unintended vehicle movement.

While no injuries or crashes have been reported, the automaker is taking proactive steps to address the safety concern.

The recall covers approximately 13,500 vehicles in the United States, with an additional 1,200 in Canada. Ford discovered the issue during internal testing, where engineers found that some rear differential housings had inadequate welds. If the weld fails, the differential could detach, potentially causing the vehicle to roll even when parked or lose power while driving.

Owners will be notified starting in late October 2024.

To fix the problem, Ford dealers will inspect the rear differential and, if necessary, replace the entire assembly free of charge. The company has also updated its manufacturing process to prevent future issues. For now, Mach-E owners are advised to park on level surfaces and engage the parking brake until the recall repair is completed.

Ford's customer service team is available to answer questions and schedule appointments.

This recall comes as Ford continues to refine its electric vehicle lineup amid growing competition. The Mustang Mach-E has been a key player in the EV market, and the company is working to maintain customer trust. Owners can check their vehicle's recall status using Ford's online tool or by contacting their local dealer.

More details are expected in the coming weeks as the repair process rolls out.
