Ford Issues Major Recall Over Faulty Second-Row Seats in Nearly 400,000 SUVs

Ford Issues Major Recall Over Faulty Second-Row Seats in Nearly 400,000 SUVs

Ford has announced a recall affecting 387,911 Aviator and Explorer models due to a defect in the second-row seat assembly. The issue involves a potential failure of the seat recliner mechanism, which could cause the seatback to move unexpectedly or collapse in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.

The recall covers certain 2020-2024 Ford Explorer and 2020-2024 Lincoln Aviator vehicles.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem stems from a missing or improperly installed weld on the seatback recliner. Ford says it has received reports of 374 warranty claims and four minor injury reports linked to the defect, though no crashes have been confirmed.

Owners may notice a loose or unstable second-row seat, or hear a clicking noise when adjusting the seat.

Ford will notify affected owners starting March 4, 2025, and dealers will inspect and replace the seatback recliner assembly free of charge. If you own one of these SUVs, you can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on Ford’s recall website or the NHTSA’s database. In the meantime, avoid adjusting the second-row seat until the repair is completed.

For immediate assistance, call Ford’s customer service line or visit your local dealer, Boca Auto Care can also help verify if your vehicle is included and schedule the fix.
