Ford Issues Major Recall for 741,000 F-150s and SUVs Over Transmission Defect

, including popular F-150 pickups and several SUV models, due to a transmission issue that could cause unintended rolling. The problem centers on a faulty park mechanism that may fail to keep the vehicle stationary when parked, posing a serious safety risk. Drivers might not realize the transmission hasn’t fully engaged park, even if the gear selector indicates otherwise.
The recall covers certain 2021-2023 Ford F-150s, as well as 2021-2023 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. Ford says the defect stems from a bushing in the transmission that can degrade over time, potentially allowing the vehicle to move after the driver has exited. The automaker has reported at least five injuries linked to this issue, though no fatalities.
Owners should expect to receive notification letters starting in early April.
For affected drivers, the fix is straightforward: dealers will replace the suspect bushing and update the transmission control software—at no cost. In the meantime, Ford advises owners to always engage the parking brake before leaving the vehicle, especially on inclines. If you own one of these models and haven’t received a notice yet, you can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
