Ford Issues Major Recall Affecting Over 450,000 Vehicles

Ford Motor Company has announced a recall impacting more than 450,000 vehicles across several popular models, citing a potential safety issue with the battery monitoring system. The defect, which affects certain 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick models equipped with a 12-volt battery, can cause an unexpected loss of drive power.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the battery monitoring sensor may malfunction, leading to a sudden stall while driving—increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners of the affected vehicles should be aware that the issue does not trigger a warning light until after power loss occurs, making it particularly dangerous. Ford has received over 900 warranty reports and three field reports related to the defect, though no injuries have been confirmed.
The company is working to notify owners directly by mail, with instructions to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer for a free software update. That update will recalibrate the battery monitoring system to prevent the problem.
Vehicle owners can check if their specific car is included by entering the 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA’s recall website or Ford’s owner portal. The recall is expected to begin in late February, and all repairs will be covered at no cost. For those who prefer in-person assistance, local dealerships are prepared to handle the update.
Ford advises anyone experiencing a sudden loss of power to pull over safely and contact roadside assistance immediately.
