Ford Issues Major Recall Affecting Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles

Ford Motor Company has announced a significant recall impacting over 272,000 vehicles across the United States. The recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), targets certain 2021-2022 model year Bronco Sport and 2022 Maverick vehicles due to a potential battery issue that could cause a loss of drive power.
According to documents, the problem stems from a software glitch in the battery monitoring system. If the vehicle’s battery voltage drops unexpectedly, the system may fail to detect it, leading to an unexpected shutdown of the engine or loss of power while driving. This increases the risk of a crash, especially at higher speeds.
Ford says it is aware of at least one accident potentially related to the defect.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail starting in late February. Dealers will update the battery monitoring software free of charge. In the meantime, Ford advises drivers to watch for warning lights on the dashboard—specifically a battery or powertrain indicator—and to contact their dealer if they experience any unusual power loss.
This recall adds to a growing list of recent safety actions by the automaker, underscoring the importance of staying current with vehicle maintenance and recall notices.
