Ford Focus recall affects 110,000 Canadian drivers - here’s the fix

If you’re behind the wheel of a Ford Focus, there’s a good chance your car is part of a massive recall sweeping Canada. Transport Canada says more than 110,000 Ford Focus vehicles from model years 2012 through 2018 need urgent repairs due to a fuel system issue that could increase the risk of a fire.

The problem stems from a faulty fuel tank purge valve that might stick open, allowing fuel vapors to escape and potentially ignite.

Ford has already started notifying owners by mail, but if you haven’t heard yet, you can check your vehicle’s VIN on the company’s recall website or through Transport Canada’s database. The fix is free: dealers will replace the purge valve and update the powertrain control module software at no cost to you.

The automaker says the repair takes about an hour, and parts are available now.
