Ford Explorer Faces Massive Recall Over Steering Concerns - Over 280,000 SUVs Impacted

Ford Explorer Faces Massive Recall Over Steering Concerns - Over 280,000 SUVs Impacted

Ford is back in the headlines with another significant recall, this time targeting nearly 300,000 Explorer SUVs. The issue centers on a potential defect in the steering rack that could lead to a loss of control while driving. The recall covers certain models from the 2013 through 2017 model years, and owners are being urged to take action quickly.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem stems from a cross-axis ball joint in the steering gear assembly. Over time, this joint can wear prematurely, causing excessive play in the steering wheel. In worst-case scenarios, the joint may separate entirely, making the vehicle difficult to steer and increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford has received several reports of incidents linked to the defect, though no injuries have been confirmed so far.

For Boca Auto Care customers, this is a reminder to stay on top of recall notices. If you own an affected Explorer, the fix involves replacing the steering gear assembly at no cost. Ford will begin notifying owners by mail starting next month. In the meantime, our shop can check your vehicle’s recall status and perform any necessary repairs or inspections to keep you safe on the road.

Don’t wait until it’s too late, bring your Explorer in for a quick evaluation.
