Ford Expands Powertrain Options for Concept Vehicles

Ford has revised its approach to building technical demonstrators, no longer limiting itself to electric powertrains. The company's program, which began before the pandemic, aimed to showcase thrilling electric vehicles, including the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 and the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck.
According to Ford Racing boss Mark Rushbrook, the company will continue to build one-off prototypes, incorporating various powertrain technologies, including hybrids and combustion engines. Rushbrook cited Ford's partnership with Red Bull's Formula 1 team as a key factor in the decision, stating that it has provided valuable knowledge about advanced hybrid systems.
This shift in approach allows Ford to explore different powertrain options without being restricted to a specific type. The company has chosen to build its own prototypes rather than competing in existing racing series, such as Formula E, to maintain flexibility and freedom in its research and development.
