Ford and Lincoln Recall Hits Canada: Rollaway Risk Prompts Urgent Action

Ford and Lincoln Recall Hits Canada: Rollaway Risk Prompts Urgent Action

Transport Canada has issued a recall affecting tens of thousands of Ford and Lincoln vehicles across the country, citing a potential rollaway hazard. The issue stems from a transmission wiring defect that could allow the car to move even when the driver thinks it’s in park. The recall covers multiple popular models from recent years, and owners are being asked to contact their dealers immediately for a free repair.

According to the recall notice, the problem involves a faulty bushing on the transmission shift cable. Over time, this part can degrade or detach, causing a mismatch between the gear selector’s position and the actual transmission gear. In practice, a driver might shift into park and see the indicator show “P,” but the car could still be in another gear.

If the parking brake isn’t engaged, the vehicle may roll away unexpectedly, posing a serious safety risk to drivers, passengers, and bystanders.

The recall covers roughly 30,000 units in Canada, including the 2020-2022 Ford Explorer, 2020-2022 Lincoln Aviator, and select 2021-2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E models. Ford has confirmed that no crashes or injuries have been reported in Canada related to this defect, but the company is acting proactively.

Affected owners will receive notification by mail, and repairs, which involve replacing the shift cable bushing, will be performed at no cost.

For Boca Auto Care customers, this recall serves as a reminder to stay current with vehicle service bulletins. If you own one of the affected models, bring it in and we’ll handle the inspection and any necessary repairs. Keeping your car safe isn’t just about oil changes, it’s about catching these factory issues before they become problems.
