Federal Probe Casts Shadow Over Cadillac F1 Backer

A federal investigation is putting a spotlight on Mark Walter, a major investor behind Cadillac’s Formula 1 team. S. Securities and Exchange Commission are looking into companies tied to Walter, whose initials are part of the TWG Global name. According to Bloomberg, grand jury subpoenas were issued in February to Walter’s investment firm Guggenheim Partners LLC and two insurance companies he controls, Delaware Life Insurance Co.
and Clear Spring Life and Annuity Co. The filings only recently became public.
Prosecutors in Manhattan are examining whether those companies failed to disclose that billions of dollars in private credit investments were linked to Walter’s other business ventures. Both insurers confirmed the SEC is running a parallel investigation. The FBI reportedly seized a mobile phone during a search warrant execution in September, though its role in the case remains unclear.
TWG Global, which also owns stakes in NASCAR’s Spire Motorsports, Andretti Global in IndyCar, and Formula E, said it is cooperating with the investigation. Walter additionally owns the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers, and Sparks.
For Cadillac’s F1 team, the news comes during a rocky debut season. Through the first 10 races of 2026, Cadillac is the only team without a point. Valtteri Bottas’ 13th-place finish in China stands as the team’s best result. While the probe hasn’t directly affected team operations yet, the question lingers: could the legal turbulence eventually ripple through the paddock?
For now, Cadillac’s focus remains on the track, but off it, the story is just getting started.
