EV Sales Show Signs of Life After Months of Decline

EV Sales Show Signs of Life After Months of Decline

7% compared to last year, landing at 98,684 vehicles. That might sound like bad news, but it's actually the smallest drop in eight months, a clear signal the EV market is starting to stabilize after a brutal stretch. The slump followed the elimination of the federal tax credit, which sent demand into a tailspin.

But automakers have been piling on incentives, and buyers are slowly returning. 2% share of the EV segment, up 12% from last year, while Hyundai posted a 27% gain and Toyota saw a stunning 234% jump.

Overall, battery-electric vehicles captured 7% of the light-vehicle market in May, down just a tenth of a percentage point from a year ago. But the bigger picture shows the road ahead remains bumpy. 3%. 8% and 2024's 8%. Analysts expect only very slow growth through the early 2030s.

Average incentives held steady at $7,611 per vehicle, while the average transaction price fell 4% to $54,532.

The recovery has been gradual but real. 8% in April. May's near-flat performance suggests the worst may be over, at least for now. Industry watchers had predicted the market would settle after the wild swings of 2025, when buyers rushed to qualify for the tax credit before it vanished.

For Boca Auto Care customers considering an EV, the takeaway is simple: prices are coming down, incentives are strong, and the technology isn't going anywhere.
