Electric Vehicle Recall Affects Toyota, Subaru, and Lexus Models

Electric Vehicle Recall Affects Toyota, Subaru, and Lexus Models

A recall has been issued for nearly 21,000 electric vehicles in the US due to a software issue that can cause the vehicle to lose power without warning. The recall affects certain models of Toyota bZ, Lexus RZ, and Subaru Solterra vehicles built between April 2025 and April 2026.

The problem is related to a battery management system glitch that can occur when two integrated circuits overwrite data in the same memory location, causing the electric drive system to shut down entirely. Owners may see a warning message and lights on their dashboard before the vehicle loses power.

The issue does not affect the steering or brakes, allowing drivers to maintain control of the vehicle. A software update is available to fix the issue, which can be performed at a dealership. The update is a relatively simple fix, and while it is not necessary to stop driving the vehicle immediately, it is recommended to get the update as soon as possible to avoid potential problems.
