Dodge Is Dropping a 600-HP Six-Cylinder Charger Next Month - And It’s No Hemi

Dodge is gearing up for a busy summer of Charger celebrations as the iconic muscle car turns 60. To mark the milestone, the brand will roll out a new, more powerful gas version of the Charger next month. Don’t get your hopes up for a Hemi V8 comeback just yet, though. Instead, Dodge is betting that a hotter version of its twin-turbo inline-six, dubbed the Sixpack, will finally win over skeptics who’ve been slow to embrace the new generation.
0-liter Hurricane inline-six, available in 420-hp standard form or a 550-hp High Output variant. Given Dodge’s love for extremes, expect the new version to push closer to 600 horsepower. That would beat the 670-hp Charger Daytona EV, but Dodge likely won’t top that number, otherwise they’d have called it the most powerful Charger, period.
A 600-hp six-cylinder might not have the rumble of a Hemi, but it already outguns the last-generation Charger’s top V8, which maxed out at 485 hp. 7-liter Hemi only managed 370. To get past that, you needed a supercharged Hellcat starting at 707 hp. Still, many hardcore Dodge fans remain loyal to the V8, and reports suggest a Hellcat-powered Charger could arrive next year.
For now, this new Sixpack aims to prove that power and performance matter more than cylinder count, and that an American-built inline-six can hang with the best from Germany.
