Czinger 21C Spyder Debuts with Top Convertible Downforce and Advanced Brake Tech

Czinger has unveiled the 21C Spyder at Monterey Car Week, a roofless version of its hybrid hypercar that claims more downforce than any other open-top road car. The Spyder shares the coupe's High Downforce aero package, producing 3,307 pounds of downforce at 150 mph with the roof on, and 3,267 pounds with it off.
For comparison, the McLaren W1 generates 2,205 pounds at 174 mph.
The removable carbon-fiber roof panel weighs just 22 pounds and comes off with two latches. A foldable soft top is available for bad weather. Czinger says new crash tests were done to meet safety standards, and added carbon-fiber piling in the A-pillars for rollover protection. The car weighs 3,571 pounds, only 22 more than the coupe.
Power comes from a twin-turbo 2.88-liter V8 with 750 hp, paired with three electric motors for a combined 1,250 hp. The Spyder hits 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and covers the quarter-mile in 8.7 seconds, with a top speed of 205 mph (roof on).
The Spyder introduces BrakeNode, which integrates the caliper, hydraulic lines, and suspension upright into one piece. 5 pounds of unsprung mass per corner, and boosts stiffness by 30%. The brakes have been tested to 500 bars of pressure, and front calipers use titanium pistons for better heat resistance.
Also new is the NeuralNode dashboard, a single structure with hollow air vents and floating control clusters. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped, and there's a cupholder, wireless Apple CarPlay, and an 8-speaker Morel audio system.
Czinger will build 30 Spyders, separate from the 80 coupes. Pricing starts at $2.75 million. The show car features brown paint with brown-tinted carbon and light blue accents. Production takes place in Torrance, California.
