Connie Peters Puts the 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Hybrid to the Test

Connie Peters Puts the 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Hybrid to the Test

After spending weeks behind the wheel of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland, Mazda CX-5, and Honda CR-V, I can say the compact hybrid SUV segment is more competitive than ever. Now, a fresh contender enters the ring: the 2026 Jeep Cherokee Limited Hybrid. Rather than rehash my own impressions, I turned to a trusted voice — Connie Peters, a veteran automotive reviewer and regular contributor to outlets like Autoblog and Car and Driver — for her take.

Peters recently spent a full week with the Cherokee Hybrid, and her video review breaks down what sets it apart from the pack.

0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That’s a solid step up from the RAV4 Hybrid’s 219 horsepower. Fuel economy lands at an EPA-estimated 28 mpg combined, slightly below the Toyota’s 40 mpg but competitive for a vehicle with standard all-wheel drive and a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

Pricing starts at $38,995, including destination, putting it in line with mid-range trims of the Honda CR-V Hybrid.

“The Cherokee feels more planted on highway curves than the CR-V, and the hybrid powertrain delivers torque smoothly from a stop — no jerky transitions here,” Peters notes in her review. 1-inch touchscreen come standard, while the optional Trailhawk package adds all-terrain tires and increased ground clearance.

However, she warns that rear seat legroom is tighter than in the RAV4, a trade-off for the Cherokee’s more rugged styling.

The TTAC Creators Series, which produces Peters’ review, showcases voices from across the automotive world — from dealership insights to custom builds. For now, the 2026 Cherokee Limited Hybrid offers a compelling mix of power and capability, but buyers should weigh its lower efficiency against its off-road-ready features.
