CHP Steps Up Patrols as Monterey Car Week Floods Roads With Supercars

CHP Steps Up Patrols as Monterey Car Week Floods Roads With Supercars

Monterey Car Week is set to run from August 7 to 16, 2026, drawing thousands of supercar and classic car owners to the Central Coast. With that influx of high-performance vehicles, the California Highway Patrol has announced increased vigilance and enforcement across the region.

The CHP Coastal Division Commander Chief issued a statement urging drivers to obey traffic laws and prioritize safety. Social media posts from CHP Monterey showed a photo of supercars, including a McLaren 750S, alongside a reminder for drivers to slow down, stay patient, and watch for pedestrians.

The agency asked everyone to allow extra travel time and to keep the week fun and safe.

Starting August 12, a Division-wide Special Enforcement Unit began targeting dangerous driving and speeding. CHP Air Operations will also join ground patrols in enforcement efforts. The timing coincides with the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, which runs from August 12 to 16 and is expected to draw thousands of enthusiasts and spectators.

Chief Mike Alvarez emphasized that while the Central Coast welcomes automotive fans, safety remains the top priority. He warned that speeding puts both drivers and local neighborhoods at risk, and urged everyone to work together so visitors and residents alike return home safely with good memories.

Beyond warnings, CHP officers also assisted a stranded motorist. One social media post showed what appears to be a McLaren Senna GTR with its rear bodywork open, exposing suspension and exhaust parts, while a patrol vehicle helped after the car broke down.
