Chevy Express Van Finally Drops Its 20-Year-Old Radio for a Modern Screen

Chevy Express Van Finally Drops Its 20-Year-Old Radio for a Modern Screen

, is getting its most significant cabin update in years. According to GM Authority, Chevy is replacing the van's outdated radio with a new touchscreen display. The Express, along with its GMC Savana sibling, has been on sale since 1996 and has seen only minor changes since, including various engines and grille updates.

The current radio design, complete with a volume knob and green pixel display, dates back to an era when buttons were standard. 0-inch unit from the base Silverado, would bring the van in line with the rest of GM's fleet and offer a larger backup camera image.

This isn't the Express's first touchscreen. It had an optional one with navigation and a rearview camera from model year 2013 until it was dropped after 2019. The upgrade could also add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though that hasn't been confirmed. The change is likely driven by cost and parts commonality, but it may not please all drivers.

Work users often wear heavy gloves, making touchscreens difficult to operate, and a broken screen might not get fixed if a company is paying. Whether this marks the beginning of the end for the ancient van remains unclear. CarBuzz has reached out to GM for more details on the 2027 Express.
