Cadillac Recalls SUVs Over Powered Third-Row Seats That Pose Entrapment Risk

General Motors has issued a recall for thousands of Cadillac SUVs after discovering a dangerous flaw in the powered third-row seats. The mechanism can potentially trap a child or small adult between the seat and the vehicle's interior if the seat moves unexpectedly. The recall affects certain models of the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV from recent production years.

The problem centers on the electric seat-folding system. According to documents filed with federal safety regulators, the seats may continue to move even after the occupant releases the control button. This creates a pinch point that could cause injury or prevent someone from escaping.

GM says it has received reports of minor injuries linked to the issue.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified starting next month. Dealers will update the seat control software free of charge to prevent the unintended movement. In the meantime, Cadillac advises drivers to keep children away from the third-row seats when they are being adjusted.

The recall underscores how even convenience features can become safety hazards without proper safeguards.
