Cadillac Halts Vistiq Sales After Third-Row Seat Poses Entrapment Risk for Kids

Cadillac has told its dealers to stop selling the 2026 and 2027 Vistiq three-row electric crossover, following a recall tied to a dangerous flaw in the third-row seat. The automaker says the power-folding seat can trap a small occupant — especially a child — if activated while someone is sitting in it.
According to Cadillac’s recall report, the seatback can be folded flat with a single press of a button located in the cargo area or on a nearby pillar. But if something or someone is in the seat, the mechanism doesn’t stop or reverse. “Smaller occupants could become trapped under the seatback, increasing the risk of injury,” the report states.
General Motors says it caught the problem after Hyundai issued a similar recall for the 2026 Palisade, which was linked to the death of a two-year-old in Ohio. A GM engineer flagged the issue through the company’s internal safety program. In the meantime, dealers can sell the Vistiq only if they disable the power-folding feature before delivery, locking the seats in place.
Owners who already have the vehicle will get notices to bring it in for a temporary fix.
Cadillac expects replacement parts to arrive by the first week of August. Once installed, an update will make the seat automatically return to its original position if it meets resistance. Until then, the automaker is asking customers which seat position they prefer while the feature is turned off.
