Cadillac Goes Big with Electric Escalade IQ and IQL: A Full Review

Cadillac has taken its iconic Escalade and given it a full electric makeover, but don’t call it a simple engine swap. The 2027 Escalade IQ and its longer sibling, the IQL, are entirely new beasts underneath, sharing more DNA with GM’s electric pickups than the gas-powered model.
The standard IQ stretches over a foot longer than the regular Escalade, and the IQL adds even more inches. With dual electric motors pushing up to 750 horsepower and a massive 205-kWh battery pack, GM claims up to 465 miles of range for the IQ and 460 for the IQL. In real-world highway testing, the IQ delivered a solid 380 miles.
Charging is quick too, thanks to an 800-volt system that can add 116 miles of range in just 10 minutes on a DC fast charger.
Step inside, and you’re greeted by a 55-inch dashboard display that spans the entire width of the cabin, plus a secondary touchscreen for climate and door controls. The interior is wrapped in leather with polished aluminum accents and ambient lighting. Second-row captain’s chairs offer plenty of space, but the third row in the standard IQ is surprisingly tight for such a big vehicle—opt for the IQL if you need room for seven adults.
Cargo space includes a 12-cubic-foot frunk under the hood and room for seven carry-on suitcases behind the third row. Standard tech includes a 21-speaker AKG audio system, a head-up display, and Super Cruise hands-free driving. Just note: Apple CarPlay is not available, as GM has dropped it from its EVs.
On the road, the Escalade IQ weighs in at a hefty 9,120 pounds, which gives it a plush ride but some unsettled handling. The steering feels vague and requires constant corrections, and the body moves around on uneven pavement. 7 for the IQL. Towing capacity is 8,000 pounds for the IQ and 7,500 for the IQL, though expect range to drop significantly when hauling.
Pricing starts well over $100,000, and for those who find the Escalade too massive, Cadillac offers the smaller Vistiq as an alternative. For now, the IQ and IQL bring the Escalade experience into the EV era with plenty of luxury, range, and presence.
