Building Your Dream 2027 BMW iX3: Four Editors, Four Very Different Takes

The all-new 2027 BMW iX3 has arrived, and it’s a big deal. It’s the first model to ride on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, which will underpin the next 3-Series and beyond. Starting at $62,850 for the 50 xDrive, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive SUV with 463 horsepower, the iX3 is already available to configure online.
But with so many personalization options, where do you even begin? We let four Car and Driver editors loose on the configurator to see what they’d actually build. The results? Wildly different.
Elana Scherr went for understated flair. She chose the base Sport trim over the M Sport, saying the cleaner front end beats the glossy black accents. Her color pick? ” She paired it with 22-inch aero multispoke wheels ($1,350) and a surprising Agave Green leather-free interior that she says looks like a ‘60s time capsule.
Add-ons include the comfort package ($1,500) for lumbar support, a 360-degree parking camera ($750), three-zone climate control ($200), and heated rear seats for the dogs. Total: $70,300. Carter Fry went a different route. He also stuck with the base Sport trim, refusing to pay $4,000 for black mirror caps.
Instead, he splurged $4,500 on Voodoo Blue paint, then deleted the trunk badges for free. Inside, it’s all black, no frills. He chose the same 22-inch wheels as Elana, but skipped every tech package. His final price: $70,300.
Caleb Miller tried to stay under $70,000 but ended at $71,245. He opted for the M Sport package ($2,500) for the sportier look, then chose Eucalyptus Green Metallic ($650) and 22-inch wheels ($1,350). Inside, he matched the green with a no-cost Agave Green interior. He added the comfort package for a heated steering wheel and massage seats, plus the technology package ($1,900) for the head-up display and Harman Kardon sound system.
All-weather floor mats and a cargo mat rounded out the build. Finally, Eric Stafford embraced the iX3’s polarizing looks. ” Inside, he chose white upholstery for free, then loaded up on nearly every option: driver assist, comfort, tech, parking, a trailer hitch, heated rear seats, sunroof shade, and three-zone climate.
Total: $79,590. Four editors, four approaches, but only one car.
