Boca Auto Care: Why BMW Is Telling Owners to Park Their Cars Outside

BMW has issued a recall that comes with an unusual warning: if you own one of the affected models, park it outside and away from any structures. The recall, announced this week, covers certain vehicles with a potential coolant pump issue that could overheat and, in rare cases, cause an engine fire.

For owners in South Florida, where many park in garages or carports, this is a serious safety notice.

The problem centers on the electric coolant pump, which may fail and short-circuit. While no injuries have been reported. BMW is being proactive. The recall affects a range of models, including some 3 Series, 5 Series, and X3 SUVs from recent years. If you own one of these cars, you should check your VIN on BMW’s recall website or give us a call at Boca Auto Care.

We can verify if your car is included and explain what comes next.

The fix is straightforward: BMW dealers will replace the faulty pump at no cost. But until then, the company insists you park outside. That means no garage, no carport, and no parking under an awning. The logic is simple: if a fire does start, you want it in the open, not next to your home or wooden fence.

For local drivers, this might mean shuffling cars around or parking on the street for a few weeks. It’s an inconvenience, but one that’s better than the alternative.

At Boca Auto Care, we’re here to help you navigate recalls like this. Even if you don’t usually go to the dealership for service, we can inspect your car, confirm the recall status, and advise on next steps. The key is not to ignore the notice. BMW is serious about this, and so should you.
