Boca Auto Care: Tesla’s Model Y Grows Up to Replace the Discontinued Model X

Tesla has officially started selling a long-wheelbase, three-row version of the Model Y in the United States, stepping in as a de facto replacement for the larger, now-discontinued Model X. This stretched crossover first hit the market in China last year and arrived in Australia earlier this year, according to Automotive News.
The move gives buyers a third-row option without the price tag of the old Model X.
Meanwhile, Tesla just posted its strongest quarter in years, delivering 480,126 vehicles worldwide—roughly 80,000 more than analysts had predicted and a 25% improvement over the second quarter of 2025. Analysts credit the surge to robust sales in China and Europe, as reported by Bloomberg.
But the good news is tempered by the first known fatal crash involving a Tesla Semi, which occurred last week in Nevada. The tractor-trailer struck a vintage Volkswagen Beetle, killing both occupants. The Semi does not offer Full Self-Driving, and investigators say preliminary statements suggest the truck driver may have fallen asleep, per the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
In other EV news, Walmart has rapidly expanded its charging network from zero to more than 70 stations with over 600 connectors in just over a year. General Motors has filed a patent for a system that lets connected vehicles exchange crash reports after a collision. And Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa insists the Japanese automaker and Renault are “collaborating better than ever,” despite Renault abstaining from a vote to reappoint a longtime Nissan director.
Finally, a Volkswagen sports car concept designed by an intern is turning heads—evoking memories of the W12 Nardo—while race results over the weekend included wins for Brandon Jones in NASCAR, Charles Leclerc in Formula 1, and Pato O’Ward in IndyCar.
