BMW’s Future Lineup Spied: Electric M3, Mystery M2 CS, and More Hit the Track

A new spy video from the Nürburgring offers an early look at BMW’s upcoming performance lineup, blending gas, hybrid, and fully electric prototypes in one 14-minute reel. The footage kicks off with the next-generation M3, shown in both combustion-engine and electric forms, before moving into a parade of other M-badged models.
But the car that’s generating the most buzz appears at the 3:09 mark: a partially camouflaged M2 CS in M Brooklyn Grey.
The M2 CS has been on sale for over a year, so the mystery camouflage on the front and rear raises eyebrows. A CSL variant is unlikely, since rear-seat headrests are visible. BMW’s CSL models typically ditch rear seats to save weight. One theory is that BMW is testing the M2 with its new M Ignite pre-chamber combustion technology, which is coming to European S58 engines starting in August.
Alternatively, the company could be testing upgraded suspension or other hardware. Later in the video, a pre-facelift M5 Sedan in MotoGP Safety Car livery appears alongside a camouflaged M5 Touring LCI, which borrows styling cues from the Neue Klasse design language.
The electric X3 M also makes a cameo, confirming that BMW will drop the six-cylinder model entirely for this SUV. The M3 (codenamed ZA0) is locked in for a 2027 debut, while the X3 M (ZA5) should follow in 2028. Before those arrive, expect the M350, the successor to the M340i, to debut alongside the eighth-generation 3 Series later this year.
With Audi’s RS6 Avant and RS5 Avant also spotted testing, the performance wagon war is heating up. For now. BMW’s video shows a brand that’s not slowing down, even as it pivots toward an electrified future.
