BMW’s Electric M3 Concept Puts the E30 on Notice at Le Mans

BMW’s Electric M3 Concept Puts the E30 on Notice at Le Mans

BMW is moving its legendary M3 into a new era, and it brought a bold concept to the 24 Hours of Le Mans to prove it. Officially called the M Concept Neue Klasse, this near-production vehicle previews the all-electric i3M, a model expected to arrive around 2027. The automaker describes it as a signal for its high-performance electric future, but the message is clear: this is the electric M3, even if the badge says otherwise.

Parked next to the iconic E30 M3 for photos, the concept leaves no doubt about its lineage. The shape, refined from last year’s Vision Driving Experience concept, blends the i3 sedan’s basic proportions with aggressive M-specific styling. Wide fenders, a ducktail spoiler, and large front intakes inspired by racing multihulls give it a track-ready stance.

The Monza Red metallic paint is offset by dark natural-fiber components, including the hood scoop and roof.

Inside, the cabin trades luxury for performance. Four independent bucket seats with five-point belts sit behind a roll cage wrapped in Nubuck leather. The dashboard uses a black knit material with backlighting, while the steering wheel and center console get custom controls and red accents.

BMW’s Panoramic iDrive screen remains, but the rest is pure M.

Under the skin, a quad-motor system delivers between 700 and 1,000 horsepower, paired with an 800-volt battery pack over 100 kWh. BMW’s M Dynamic Performance Control manages torque and braking at each wheel, promising a new level of agility. The battery housing is integrated with the axles for extra rigidity.

BMW hasn’t set a launch date, but 2027 is the target. A mild-hybrid six-cylinder M3 is also in the works, meaning the combustion version isn’t going away just yet.
