BMW Urges 29,000 Hybrid Owners to Park Outside After Fire Hazard Discovery

BMW Urges 29,000 Hybrid Owners to Park Outside After Fire Hazard Discovery

BMW has issued a recall affecting more than 29,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a potential fire risk, advising owners to park away from structures and not to charge the battery until repairs are completed. The recall covers select 2020 through 2024 models, including the 330e, 530e, X3 xDrive30e, and others equipped with a high-voltage battery pack.

The issue stems from a manufacturing defect that can cause battery cells to short circuit, leading to overheating and, in rare cases, a fire.

The German automaker stated that the problem has been traced to foreign particles that may have entered the battery during production. While no injuries have been reported. BMW has identified several incidents of thermal events linked to the defect. Owners are being notified by mail and instructed to schedule a free inspection and, if necessary, a battery replacement at an authorized dealership.

Until the fix is applied. BMW strongly recommends parking the vehicle outdoors and avoiding plugging it in.

For local drivers, Boca Auto Care reminds all BMW hybrid owners to take this recall seriously and check their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website or through BMW’s recall portal. Even if you haven’t received a notice, it’s worth verifying your car’s status.

If your vehicle is affected, our team can help coordinate with a certified dealer to get the repair done quickly and safely. Don’t take chances with a potential fire hazard, park outside, skip the charger, and get it checked.
