BMW Tells 30,000 Plug-In Hybrid Owners to Park Outside - Here’s the Real Reason

, warning owners to park them away from garages and structures. But unlike many recent EV recalls, the problem isn't with the high-voltage battery. Instead, the issue stems from a potential engine fire risk tied to the vehicle’s internal combustion system.

The recall covers select 2020-2024 models, including the 330e, 530e, X5 xDrive45e, and 745e. According to documents filed with the NHTSA, a manufacturing defect in the engine’s crankcase ventilation system could cause the engine to overheat. If that happens, oil may seep onto hot engine components and ignite.

BMW says the risk is low but real, and owners should park outdoors until a fix is available.

The automaker is still working on a remedy and expects to notify affected owners by mail starting in early February. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the faulty ventilation part at no cost. In the meantime. BMW recommends parking away from structures and not leaving the vehicle running unattended.

For local drivers, Boca Auto Care reminds you that if you suspect any engine or hybrid system trouble, bring it in for a thorough check before the recall repair is ready.
