BMW Tells 29,000 Hybrid Owners: Park Outside Due to Fire Danger

BMW has issued a recall affecting more than 29,000 of its plug-in hybrid vehicles after discovering a manufacturing defect that could cause the cars to catch fire. The German automaker is urging owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until repairs are complete.
The recall covers certain 2020 through 2024 models, including the 330e, 530e, 745e, X3 xDrive30e, and X5 xDrive40e.
The problem stems from a battery pack that may have been contaminated during production. If debris gets inside the high-voltage battery, it can lead to a short circuit and, in worst-case scenarios, a fire, even when the car is turned off and parked. , though no injuries have been linked to the defect so far.
The company is working on a fix and will notify owners when replacement parts are available.
For now. BMW recommends that owners park outside and not charge the vehicle’s battery until the repair is performed. Affected drivers can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) on BMW’s recall website or contact a local dealer. At Boca Auto Care, we know that recalls like this can be unsettling.
