BMW Skips Paris Motor Show as Auto Industry Rethinks Flashy Events

The Paris Motor Show remains one of the few big auto events left worth watching, but BMW won’t be there this October. While over 60 brands, including Audi and Mercedes, are set to attend. BMW has decided to sit it out, citing a shift in priorities. The move adds to a growing trend: automakers increasingly bypass traditional shows in favor of smaller, more targeted launches.

BMW says it still plans a “selective presence” at future auto shows, but only when it has something new to show off. Lately, that’s meant skipping big halls for racetracks and factory floors. The M Concept Neue Klasse debuted at Le Mans, and the redesigned X5 was unveiled at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

At Auto China earlier this year, the company did roll out the iX3 Long Wheelbase and a 7-Series facelift, but those were exceptions, not the rule.

BMW’s decision comes as the company tightens its belt. Just weeks ago, it lowered its 2026 full-year guidance. S. can’t make up for the losses in Asia. It also cited the war in Iran and other global pressures, which led to a “significant decline in profit and free cash flow” in the second quarter.

As a result. BMW is accelerating cost-cutting measures across the board.
