BMW Recalls Nearly 30,000 Vehicles Over Engine Fire Risk

BMW is pulling more than 29,000 vehicles off American roads after discovering a defect that could cause engine fires. The recall, announced late last week, affects select models from the 2020 through 2022 model years, including certain 3 Series, 5 Series, and X3 SUVs. The issue stems from a faulty electrical component in the engine compartment that may short-circuit under certain driving conditions, potentially igniting nearby materials.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted the recall notice, noting that no injuries or crashes have been reported so far. BMW dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and, if necessary, replace the problematic part free of charge. Owners can expect notification letters starting in late April.

In the meantime. BMW advises drivers to park outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed.

S. this year, following a separate campaign addressing brake system issues. For local drivers, Boca Auto Care recommends checking your vehicle’s VIN on the NHTSA website or contacting your dealership to see if your car is included. If it is, schedule the repair promptly, safety isn’t something to put off.
