BMW Recalls Nearly 11,000 Cars Over Potential Safety Issue

, citing a manufacturing defect that could pose a safety risk. The recall covers specific models from recent years, including certain 3 Series, 5 Series, and X3 SUVs, according to documents filed with federal regulators. Owners are advised to check their vehicle identification numbers and schedule repairs at no cost.

The issue stems from a potential problem with the engine’s starter motor, which may overheat and, in rare cases, lead to a fire under the hood. BMW says it has received a small number of reports of smoke or melting but no injuries so far. Dealerships will inspect and replace the affected part free of charge, and owners will be notified by mail starting next month.
