BMW Issues Urgent Recall for 29,000 Vehicles Due to Engine Fire Hazard

S. after discovering a defect that could cause engine fires. The automaker is urging owners to park their cars outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed. The recall covers select 2022-2023 models, including certain BMW X5, X6, X7, and 7 Series vehicles equipped with V8 engines.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue stems from a faulty positive crankcase ventilation valve that may short-circuit and overheat. In some cases, this has led to smoke or flames under the hood. BMW says it has received at least 18 reports of fires related to the defect, though no injuries or crashes have been reported so far.

Owners will receive notification letters starting in October, and dealers will replace the affected part free of charge.

Until then, BMW recommends parking these vehicles outside and avoiding enclosed spaces like garages to reduce the risk of property damage. Owners can also check their vehicle's eligibility by entering the VIN on the NHTSA recall website. The recall is the latest in a series of fire-related safety actions by automakers, underscoring the importance of staying current with safety notices.

For Boca Auto Care customers, we recommend bringing any recalled BMW in for inspection as soon as parts become available.
