BMW Issues Massive Recall Over Starter Motor Fire Risk - Over 740,000 Vehicles Impacted

BMW has announced a recall affecting 744,234 vehicles across multiple model years due to a starter motor defect that can cause overheating and potentially lead to engine fires. The German automaker says the issue stems from a component that may fail under certain conditions, creating a thermal event in the engine bay.

No injuries have been reported so far, but the company is urging owners to act quickly.

The recall spans a wide range of popular models, including the 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, X5, and several others produced between 2019 and 2026. BMW will replace the starter motor free of charge at authorized dealerships. Owners can expect notification letters starting in March, and those with immediate concerns can check their vehicle’s status using BMW’s online recall lookup tool.

For Boca Raton drivers, this recall means a trip to a certified service center is necessary. If your BMW is on the list, schedule an appointment as soon as possible to avoid any safety risks. The repair typically takes a few hours, and loaner vehicles may be available. Stay tuned for updates as BMW continues to roll out the fix nationwide.
