BMW Issues Major Recall on 26,000+ Vehicles in Canada Over Fire Hazard

BMW has announced a significant recall affecting more than 26,000 cars and SUVs across Canada, citing a potential fire risk tied to a faulty electrical component. The recall covers certain 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, X5, and Z4 models from the 2019 through 2022 model years. According to Transport Canada, the issue stems from a water pump connector that may overheat, increasing the chance of a fire even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
Owners are urged to park outside and away from structures until repairs are completed.
The automaker says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this defect in Canada, but has received a small number of reports of thermal incidents globally. Dealers will replace the water pump and, if necessary, the connector wiring harness free of charge. Notification letters are expected to go out to registered owners starting in mid-December.
BMW recommends that anyone with questions contact their local dealer or BMW Canada’s customer service line directly.
This recall is the latest in a string of safety actions from major automakers this year, underscoring the importance of staying on top of vehicle alerts. For drivers in the Halton region and beyond, Boca Auto Care advises checking your vehicle identification number (VIN) on Transport Canada’s recall website to see if your car is affected.
If you suspect any electrical issues, like flickering dashboard lights, a burning smell, or coolant leaks, bring your BMW in for a professional inspection without delay. Safety is always the top priority, and catching a problem early can prevent a much bigger headache down the road.
