BMW i3 Sedan Enters Series Production in Munich

Just months after its unveiling, the new BMW i3 electric sedan has begun rolling off the assembly line at BMW's historic Munich plant. The model revives a name first used on BMW's original electric hatchback in 2013, but this time it's a purpose-built EV, not a converted combustion car.
It shares the Neue Klasse platform with the iX3, which is produced in Debrecen, Hungary.
At launch, only the i3 50 xDrive version is being built, with other variants expected to follow, including a possible i3 40 and i3 M60. A full M3 model, codenamed ZA0, is slated to top the range in 2027. The order books opened earlier than planned across Europe in mid-June, featuring a First Edition priced at €75,340 in Germany.
A standard version, starting at €65,900, will be available for configuration from the end of September.
The standard-wheelbase i3 is made in Munich, while a stretched version built in China won't be sold in Europe or North America. European customers will start receiving their cars this fall, with First Edition units prioritized. S. deliveries aren't expected until later in 2027. The Munich plant will go fully electric next year, and the i3 will also be assembled in Mexico at the San Luis Potosí plant from 2027.
A more practical i3 Touring, codenamed NA1, has been spotted testing and could launch next year, possibly with an electric M3 Touring version (ZA1). The combustion-engine 3 Series will shift production to Dingolfing, with a new G50 sedan expected before year-end and a G51 wagon likely.
A gas-powered M3 (G84) is planned for 2028.
