Bentley Names Its First Electric SUV After a Spanish Mountain Range

Bentley has officially confirmed the name of its first all-electric vehicle — the Torcal — and announced a debut date for this fall. The new model joins the Flying Spur, Continental GT, and Bentayga as the fourth family line in the British luxury brand’s lineup. While details remain scarce, the automaker has released a single teaser image and hinted at a sleeker, more organic design than the boxier Bentayga.

Customers can expect deliveries to begin before the end of next year.

The name Torcal comes from the Torcal de Antequera mountain range in Spain, known for its dramatic limestone rock formations. This follows Bentley’s tradition of naming vehicles after natural landmarks — the Bentayga borrows from a nature preserve in the Canary Islands, and the Batur coupe is named after an Indonesian lake.

But there’s a clever twist: “torcal” shares a Latin root with the word “torque,” a nod to the instant, powerful torque that electric motors deliver. Bentley seems to be winking at its engineering heritage while stepping into the EV era.

Under the skin, the Torcal is expected to ride on Volkswagen’s Premium Platform Electric, the same architecture used by the Porsche Cayenne Electric. That means an 800-volt system capable of 400-kilowatt DC fast charging, a 113-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and an estimated 350 miles of range.

Power should come from a dual-motor setup producing around 650 horsepower, with a future Speed model possibly cracking four digits. But Bentley is expected to prioritize comfort and grace over outright performance, keeping the Torcal distinct from its Porsche cousin.

The official reveal is set for September 23, with more teasers likely in the months ahead. Deliveries in the U.S. should begin in late 2027 as 2028 models, and with a price expected to exceed the Cayenne Turbo Electric’s $165,350, buyers may want to start budgeting now.
