Albon Stays with Williams Through 2027 as Team Locks In Future

Williams Racing has confirmed that Alexander Albon will remain with the team for the 2027 Formula 1 season, ending speculation about his immediate future while questions around teammate Carlos Sainz continue. The announcement came as the season resumes after the summer break, with Albon set to complete six years at the Grove-based outfit by the end of 2027, making him one of the longest-serving drivers with the British team in recent memory.

Albon first joined Williams in 2022 after a year away from F1 following his time with Red Bull. Since then, he has been a consistent presence while teammates came and went, and he was paired with race winner Sainz starting in 2025. That season proved strong for Albon, who finished eighth in the drivers' standings with Williams, his best result with the team.

The 2026 campaign has been tougher, with Williams failing to build on last year's progress. The team skipped a shakedown in Barcelona because they were not ready, and although they made it to the Bahrain tests, it became clear they were at the back of the field during the first half of the season.

They currently sit ninth in the constructors' standings with 11 points, while Albon is 16th in the drivers' standings with five points.

Speaking after the announcement, Albon said it is hard to put into words the transformation the team has made since he joined, adding that one tough year doesn't tell the full picture and that it only motivates him to keep building with the factory and fans. He said the story is not over and his focus is on getting the team back up the grid.

Team principal James Vowles said he is delighted to continue the journey with Albon, calling him a leader of the transformation project and one of the best drivers on the grid, and noted that re-signing him shows belief in the direction they are heading.
