Acura's Cancelled RSX EV Surfaces in Patent Drawings

Acura's Cancelled RSX EV Surfaces in Patent Drawings

Acura's plan to revive the RSX name on a compact electric crossover has been scrapped, but newly released patent images show what the production model would have looked like.

The Japanese luxury brand had been deep into development of the battery-powered SUV, having unveiled the RSX Prototype in late 2025 and testing camouflaged mules on public roads. S. Patent and Trademark Office before parent company Honda reversed its EV strategy, killing the project.

The patent images show a vehicle closely matching the RSX Prototype, though with some notable changes. The most obvious difference is the replacement of the show car's small camera mirrors with conventional full-size rear-view mirror housings. Other tweaks include a roof-mounted shark fin antenna, cutouts in the wheel-well trim for side reflectors, and openings in the lower grille that appear intended for cooling.

While the drawings give us our clearest look yet at the would-be production RSX, the future of the nameplate remains uncertain. If Acura does eventually use the RSX badge on another model, many would hope it lands on something more worthy of the storied name than another small crossover in an already crowded segment.
